backend developer for payment systems

Zalando Payments builds the technologies for financial transactions in Zalando’s fashion store and consumer-facing apps. It delivers checkout, payment processing, and backend reconciliation, using risk steering to improve conversion and provide a competitive advantage.

• Design, develop, test, and operate core APIs that enable secure customer payments;
• Build services for tailored deferred payment options and other payment products, interfacing directly with merchant systems;
• Ensure the product complies with high fintech industry standards;
• Create highly scalable solutions and own the entire application lifecycle;
• Design technical solutions within the team’s architecture and handle implementation, testing, and production operations;
• Own code with the team and decide on technologies and tools for large-scale cloud applications based on AWS and microservices;
• Share knowledge with colleagues and help them develop their technical skills.

• Degree in computer science or a related field, or experience as an IT Specialist;
• Experience building production services and ideally operating them;
• Ability to coordinate and communicate effectively with teammates and across team boundaries;
• Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical decision-making with the team;
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a logical, pragmatic attitude;
• Nice to have: experience in e-commerce or payments, familiarity with the Java ecosystem and frameworks such as Spring Boot, knowledge of microservice architecture, REST services, and asynchronous distributed systems.
