Head of Desktop Engineering (C++)

Muse Group develops MuseScore Studio and Audacity, two widely used, long-lived, open-source C++ desktop applications for musicians and audio creators.

• Own desktop architecture across MuseScore Studio, Audacity, and MuseHub, including the Audacity 4.1+ engine decision and MuseHub tray-agent architecture
• Ensure the engineering health of desktop surfaces, including crash-free sessions, licence validation across updates, agent lifecycle, plugin scanning, and latency
• Lead the transition to the lighter three-surface MuseHub without breaking the install base
• Own the C++ discipline horizontally, including hiring bar, levelling, standards, and growth; engineers remain in their product teams, with the discipline running through its leads
• Drive agentic development in the discipline with the AI Catalyst and QA Automation Lead
• Develop the in-host panel in Audacity and MuseScore Studio as a revenue surface

• 8+ Years in C++ desktop product engineering, including 2–3 years leading engineers
• Experience shipping cross-platform desktop software for Windows, macOS, and Linux to a large consumer install base
• Deep real-time audio expertise, including driver modes (WASAPI shared vs exclusive, ASIO, CoreAudio, ALSA/PipeWire), buffer sizing, round-trip latency measurement, lock-free callbacks, and thread priority
• Ability to run a build-vs-adopt engine evaluation and defend it at C-level
• Experience refactoring large legacy codebases under a live user base
• Experience with desktop distribution, including installers, auto-update, signing and notarisation, licence enforcement, and crash reporting
• Experience leading a horizontal discipline or guild where engineers report elsewhere day-to-day
• Hands-on experience with agentic coding stacks applied to C++
