• Support and extend the existing Perl-based payment gateway while designing and building high-performance Python microservices;
• Architect and implement scalable, distributed Python services to replace legacy components in high-load production environments;
• Integrate and manage complex third-party APIs and external payment services with reliable transaction flows and error handling;
• Lead code reviews, drive engineering best practices, and identify system bottlenecks to improve performance and scalability;
• Collaborate with DevOps to improve GitLab CI/CD pipelines and architect solutions using AWS services such as Lambda and ECS;
• Apply a product mindset to understand business logic, user impact, and the rationale behind features;
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues in distributed systems while maintaining zero-downtime operations for merchants.

• 5+ Years of backend engineering experience with deep Python expertise;
• Experience with FastAPI and AsyncIO;
• Experience building and scaling microservices architectures and high-throughput systems;
• Deep understanding of third-party API integrations, including webhooks, callbacks, idempotency, and retry policies;
• Strong experience with Docker or containerization;
• Solid understanding of AWS infrastructure, including Lambda, SQS/SNS, and cloud networking;
• Ability to write clean, intentional code and explain the reasoning behind implementation decisions;
• Familiarity with event-driven architecture and messaging systems such as Kafka and RabbitMQ;
• Track record of owning features from design through production;
• Experience supporting or mentoring other engineers;
• Strong English communication skills, both written and verbal;
• Nice to have: Perl experience.
