devops engineer in R&D and innovation

• Own CI/CD across Azure Pipelines and GitLab CI, including YAML pipelines, multi-stage builds, environment promotion, approvals, artifact and container publishing, and shared templates;
• Provision and operate Kubernetes clusters, including creating new clusters with Rancher, managing workloads, ingress, secrets, resource limits, autoscaling, rollout and rollback strategies, Helm charts, version upgrades, and etcd backups;
• Own the Azure estate and self-hosted services, including cost hygiene and right-sizing;
• Introduce Infrastructure as Code with reusable modules, state management, and parity between environments;
• Build and maintain monitoring and alerting with metrics collection, Grafana dashboards, centralised logging, and actionable alerts;
• Own production releases, incident response, root cause analysis, backup and restore drills, and the on-call rotation;
• Manage secrets and access with Key Vault, managed identities, Entra ID, and least-privilege RBAC;
• Add secret, dependency, and image scanning to pipelines;
• Work with Project Managers across ventures to process and prioritise infrastructure requests and propose lower-cost alternatives;
• Plan and report work in Azure DevOps, break requests into tasks, create tasks for self-originated work, keep status current, and raise blockers early.

• 3+ Years of experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering with real production ownership;
• Strong hands-on Linux skills and confidence debugging services from the shell;
• Proven CI/CD experience with Azure Pipelines, GitLab CI, or equivalent;
• Production Kubernetes experience with deployments, services, ingress, configuration and secrets, RBAC, autoscaling, troubleshooting, and cluster creation from scratch;
• Experience with Helm for packaging;
• Solid Docker fundamentals, including multi-stage builds, image size, and base image hygiene;
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, including compute, networking, storage, Key Vault, managed identities, Entra ID, and Azure Monitor;
• Bash scripting plus Python or PowerShell for task automation;
• Networking fundamentals including DNS, TLS and certificates, reverse proxies, load balancing, VNets, subnets, NSGs, and firewall rules;
• Operations experience with databases, including backups, tested restores, connection pooling, and troubleshooting slow queries with developers;
• Sound security instincts around exposed secrets, public endpoints, and unnecessary permissions;
• Ability to support multiple teams with competing requests, work independently, estimate credibly, and flag risks early;
• Good written and verbal communication in English;
• Nice to have: Infrastructure as Code with Terraform or Bicep.
